Job title: Digital Forensic Analyst
Company: City of New York
Job description:
Job Opening: Digital Forensic Analyst at the New York City Department of Investigation
Are you ready to help make a difference in New York City? The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI), one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the nation, is on the lookout for a talented Digital Forensic Analyst. With a mission to combat municipal corruption, we serve as an independent watchdog for the City—keeping a keen eye on government operations, agencies, City employees, contractors, and anyone receiving City funds.
In this pivotal role, you’ll be diving deep into a range of sensitive investigations. Your work will involve retrieving, examining, and analyzing digital evidence from various sources—think laptops, desktops, servers, mobile devices, tablets, and even CCTV systems. Your attention to detail is crucial as you establish and uphold the chain of custody for this digital evidence, ensuring everything is logged, secured, and handled meticulously.
You will be joining a supportive team where collaboration is key. You’ll assist with computer-related search warrants, work with fellow investigators, and partner up with our Cyber Investigation Unit. This unit is at the forefront of cybersecurity investigations and conducts Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) research to bolster our efforts. Your findings will play a significant role in our commitment to enhancing public safety and justice in the community.
If you’re chosen for this exciting opportunity, please note that a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a review of your consumer credit history, will be part of the process. This is standard for positions tied to law enforcement and investigation, as outlined by the NYC Administrative Code.
Ready to take the next step? All applicants, including current City employees, should head over to https://cityjobs.nyc.gov/ and search for Job ID# 697853. We kindly ask that you refrain from emailing or mailing your resumes directly to DOI. Due to the high volume of applications we receive, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
Appointments will be finalized upon approval from the Office of Management & Budget’s budgeted headcount.
Qualifications:
- A four-year high school diploma (or its equivalent approved by a state Department of Education) along with four years of relevant full-time experience in investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or other key operational areas within a governmental or industrial agency; or
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience as described in “1” or “2” above.
