Join us at PAGNY as we work alongside the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) for New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) to provide essential medical and mental health care within our jail system. Each year, around 25% of new inmates seek our mental health services, and we’re committed to welcoming those who need us. Our mission is to deliver safe, holistic, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for individuals facing a broad spectrum of mental health challenges—from serious mental illnesses to the everyday stresses that can come with incarceration.
At PAGNY, we’re proud to offer some of the most comprehensive and innovative treatment options available in the country. Our services include specialized housing units for those with serious mental health needs, a round-the-clock psychiatric support service, engaging creative arts programs, robust DBT training, clinics in each facility, substance use treatment, and integrated support for re-entry into society. We also enjoy collaboration with several training institutions across the city, which enriches our environment and enhances our care.
Your Role:
Working under the guidance of the Medical Director of Mental Health or a supervising Psychiatrist, you will provide compassionate, team-oriented psychiatric care to individuals navigating the complexities of the New York City jail system. This full-time position will involve:

- Collaborating with non-prescribing mental health staff and medical personnel on diagnosis and treatment options, including the necessity for psychiatric medication.
- Actively participating in daily team meetings within mental observation units or weekly meetings in clinic settings.
- Contributing to the development and review of individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Evaluating patient needs for higher care levels, such as hospitalization, and ensuring continuity of care by maintaining contact with psychiatric staff during patient transitions.
- Documenting clinical interactions clearly and promptly in our electronic medical records system.
- Providing clinical supervision to psychiatric nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and psychiatric volunteers as necessary.
- Engaging in weekly supervision sessions with our psychiatric leadership for ongoing professional growth.
- Taking on additional responsibilities as delegated by the Senior Psychiatrist or facility leadership.
This role is based at Rikers Island, and your work schedule would be Monday to Friday from 4 PM to midnight.
