As an Application Architect within our Professional Services AppDev Practice, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders from our customers to craft solutions that tackle real business challenges. You’ll be at the forefront, shaping impactful customer initiatives, defining their key business problems, and architecting robust solutions that drive innovation.

This position can be based at our vibrant office in New York City or remotely from anywhere within North America.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with enterprise clients to devise application modernization strategies, architectural decisions, and technical roadmaps that align with their overall business objectives. Be their trusted guide in navigating MongoDB adoption, cloud migrations, and legacy system updates.
• Take the lead in designing and implementing modern application architectures, including microservices, serverless functions, event-driven systems, as well as hybrid cloud and on-prem deployments. Your focus will be to ensure these architectures are scalable, secure, and built with best practices for high availability and resilience.
• Create innovative solutions such as operational data layers, data meshes, and microservices that create real business value, driving transformative technological change with MongoDB.
• Define project scope, estimate timelines, and ensure the delivery of product increments that correspond with business priorities, while maintaining a laser focus on strategic goals.
• Establish your role as a technical authority, guiding solution delivery alongside remote development teams, project managers, and executive stakeholders to ensure everyone is aligned on critical architectural choices.
• Take an advisory approach: inspire confidence, challenge the status quo, and provide clear strategic guidance to customers.
• Lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, and showcases in tandem with the Project Manager, contributing bold ideas and strategic insights, while offering hands-on leadership.
• Foster innovation: continuously enhance development processes, technologies, and methodologies, while leveraging emerging GenAI capabilities to stay ahead of the curve.
• Create a playbook: develop and maintain a library of top-notch solution components that enhance efficiency and expedite delivery.
• Thrive in a fast-paced setting: excel in a dynamic environment where ownership, accountability, and a proactive mindset are crucial to success.

What You Bring

• 10+ years of hands-on experience in application development, ideally in tech-driven consulting, with at least 3 years as an Application Architect or Technical Lead. You’ve successfully overseen large-scale application modernization efforts.
• A proven track record of linking technology to business outcomes, showing that you’re not just a tech whiz but a catalyst for measurable impact.
• Strong understanding of software architectures, including microservices and event-driven patterns. You can easily discuss architecture trade-offs with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• You have a solid delivery background, having designed and implemented scalable, highly available distributed systems grounded in microservices and Domain-Driven Design principles.
• Practical experience with modern cloud architectures on platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP, and you’re comfortable designing for containerized environments and serverless technologies. You also understand hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure considerations.
• Expertise in full-stack cloud-native app development, agile methodologies, test-first development, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on coding skills in at least two programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/Node.js, or enterprise languages like Java or C#.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities, enabling you to engage effectively with C-level executives, technical teams, and business stakeholders.
• A remote-first mindset, with a willingness to travel (up to 20%) for vital in-person client engagements.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Experience with AI-driven solutions: if you’ve developed or led projects involving AI applications, that’s a definite plus!
• Deep expertise in MongoDB: if you’ve built or optimized mission-critical applications using MongoDB, you’re ahead of the game.
• Multilingual skills: proficiency in Spanish, Italian, German, or Mandarin would be an added advantage.
