Our Early Childhood Development Centers are dedicated to helping low-income families thrive by providing complimentary Early Head Start and Head Start services for children ages 3 to 5. Using a Montessori approach, we ensure that every child is fully prepared for school through engaging activities that foster growth in cognitive, social, emotional, and physical areas.
What You’ll Do:
We are on the lookout for a Head Start (HS) Teacher who will guide our teaching team in creating and executing developmentally suitable activities based on the Montessori curriculum. Your role will involve overseeing the implementation of plans that nurture the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative development of our young learners. You’ll work closely with Assistant Teachers and Aides, contributing to written observations, progress reports, and helping track the children’s achievements. Together with the Assistant Program Manager, you’ll also encourage parental involvement and support their growth and engagement in our programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead your teaching team in crafting a nurturing Montessori learning environment that supports holistic child development.
- Use insights from observations and discussions to create personalized and developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and families through open communication and community-building activities.
- Take on other tasks as necessary to support our mission.
Qualifications:
- At least 60 college credits, including 24 in Education or Early Childhood Education.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education or Early Childhood Education is preferred; CDA required or 24 credits in Education for those with a degree in another field.
- Experience: 2 years teaching in a preschool environment is a plus.
- Supervised student teaching: 300 hours, with half involving children under 6, or 1 year of paid teaching experience with that age group.
- If you don’t already have your CDA or 24 credits in Education, you’ll commit to completing the training program in your first year.
- A commitment to Montessori training within the first year if not already certified.
- Bilingual candidates in Spanish/English, Russian/English, Chinese/English, Korean/English, or English/Creole are highly encouraged to apply.
- Physical requirements: Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds and travel to various locations within the five boroughs as needed.
