At the Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY), we’re looking for a dedicated psychiatrist to join our team at the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) within the New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) system. Our mission is to provide comprehensive medical and mental health care in the NYC jail system. It’s remarkable to think that about 25% of new inmates will receive mental health services, which makes this role incredibly impactful. We strive to offer safe, holistic, and evidence-based interventions for a range of mental health issues—everything from severe mental illness to the everyday challenges that arise with incarceration.
Our psychiatric services are among the most innovative in the nation. We provide specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental conditions, around-the-clock psychiatric support, engaging creative arts programs, a robust Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training program, and integrated re-entry services that prepare individuals for life after jail. Every facility in our system has its own unique population and environment, and we’ll work together to match you with a location that suits your expertise and preferences.
What You’ll Do:
As part of our compassionate team, you’ll take charge of delivering top-tier psychiatric care. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting admission evaluations, follow-ups, and urgent consultations for those in our mental health program.
- Offering guidance to the mental health and medical staff on treatment options and psychiatric medications.
- Collaborating in daily team meetings if assigned to a mental observation unit, or weekly meetings in clinics.
- Developing and reviewing individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Assessing the need for higher levels of care, including hospitalizations, and ensuring seamless communication with psychiatric teams during transitions.
- Documenting all patient interactions in the electronic medical record with clarity and timeliness.
- Providing clinical supervision for psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
- Engaging in weekly supervision sessions with psychiatric leadership and guiding any resident or fellow volunteers.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by your supervisors.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM
Your Qualifications:
We’re seeking someone who brings the following to the team:
- A Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
- A valid NYS medical license in good standing.
- Completion of a 4-year accredited psychiatric residency program.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry through the ABPN.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience caring for individuals with serious mental illness in an institutional setting.
What We Offer:
In addition to a competitive salary, we’re proud to provide an exceptional benefits package, including:
- Medical plans that start from day one (some at no cost!)
- Comprehensive dental insurance.
- Generous paid time off for work-life balance.
- Opportunities for loan forgiveness through the National Student Debt Forgiveness Center.
- Consideration for visa candidates.
- Coverage under an occurrence-based medical malpractice policy.
