Job title: Senior Software Engineer, Atlas Clusters Availability and Durability
Company: MongoDB
Job description:
Join Our Team at MongoDB as a Senior Engineer!
At MongoDB, we’re all about empowering innovators and giving them the tools to reshape industries by harnessing the power of software and data. Whether you’re part of a small startup or a massive enterprise, our mission is to help you modernize your applications, make the leap to the cloud, and tap into the transformative potential of AI.
Our flagship product, MongoDB Atlas, is the industry’s leading developer data platform. It’s a globally distributed, multi-cloud database that’s available in over 115 regions on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. This means you can effortlessly build and run applications anywhere, whether that’s on-premises or in the cloud. With more than 175,000 new developers joining each month and trusted by top companies like Samsung and Toyota, it’s clear that MongoDB is the go-to choice for building next-gen, AI-driven applications.
What’s the Role?
We’re looking for a seasoned Senior Engineer to join our Atlas Clusters Organization, the heart of MongoDB Atlas. Here, you’ll play a crucial role in developing our database-as-a-service offering, our fastest-growing product. You’ll be charged with creating environments that allow users to deploy reliable, secure, and globally distributed MongoDB clusters in just minutes. This involves collaborating with the leading cloud providers—AWS, Azure, and GCP—to enhance security, durability, and performance across all deployments.
You’ll be part of the Atlas Clusters Availability and Durability Team, focused on ensuring that MongoDB Atlas clusters operate smoothly and reliably at scale. Your work will include rolling out software updates, detecting and fixing issues across deployments, and ensuring our clusters can autonomously heal themselves when necessary.
And just a heads-up: we’re interested in candidates based in New York City for our hybrid or in-office working model.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design and build exciting new features for MongoDB Atlas.
- Lead complex technical projects from start to finish.
- Collaborate with product and design teams to ensure we’re always considering the user experience.
- Strive for operational excellence while continuously enhancing the system’s resilience.
- Work directly with customers and support engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Help shape our codebase, best practices, and design principles alongside your team.
- Partner with engineers and stakeholders from various departments to keep projects on track and priority-aligned.
- Share your knowledge and learn from your colleagues while mentoring team members.
Who You Are:
- You’ve got 5+ years of solid software development experience under your belt.
- You’re skilled at writing large-scale, distributed backend systems using compiled languages like Java, C#, or Go.
- You’re comfortable navigating through the layers of a modern web application (think React, TypeScript, Enzyme).
- You have experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- You’ve successfully led the launch of new modules and kept them running smoothly in production.
- You thrive on tackling challenging problems and finding solutions.
- Communication is your strong suit; you can convey complex ideas simply.
- You’re curious, collaborative, and eager to contribute to something great.
Success Measures:
- Within 3 months: You’ll be shipping code into production and working alongside the team to tackle challenges.
- By 6 months: You’ll have contributed significantly to a major project.
- In 12 months: You’ll have designed and developed new features, led projects, and become an expert in key system areas.
