Job description:
Job Opportunity: Director of Program Operations at the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI)
Are you passionate about technology and making a real difference in the community? At the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), we’re all about enhancing New York City’s tech landscape, ensuring privacy and cybersecurity, and optimizing infrastructure and telecommunications for everyone who calls this vibrant city home—residents, businesses, employees, and visitors alike.
As a part of our dynamic team, you won’t just be managing systems; you’ll be part of something bigger, working to improve city operations at every level—from public safety and human services to education and economic development. You’ll have the unique chance to work with cutting-edge technology, transition our data infrastructure to the cloud, and collaborate with a group of enthusiastic professionals who are just as committed as you are to effecting positive change through innovation.
The Program Management Office (PMO)
The newly established Program Management Office within the Strategic Initiatives Division at OTI focuses on three key areas:
-
Program Management: We coordinate a multitude of interconnected IT projects across various New York City agencies. The PMO will help streamline these efforts to meet business goals, hit project deadlines, and manage budgets effectively.
-
Tech Assessments: By working alongside stakeholders, our team shines a light on project challenges and pain points. We aim to develop strategies that ensure successful outcomes while providing critical quality control. We’ll also assist with the early planning stages of new projects, ensuring clarity and minimizing last-minute changes.
- IT Governance & Policy: The PMO will establish standardized processes to eliminate roadblocks in delivering quality IT products and services. This includes conducting research and field surveys to identify best practices that we can implement at OTI.
Your Role: Director of Program Operations
Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for Program Management, you’ll take the helm and guide our initiatives. Your day-to-day could include:
- Leading teams to drive key initiatives laid out in the OTI Strategic Plan and ensuring every milestone is met.
- Overseeing strategic planning across various agency functions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Identifying areas for improvement and fostering a culture of innovation within the agency.
- Managing and growing the Program Operations team, defining project scopes and desired outcomes, and ensuring successful implementation.
- Monitoring progress, tracking metrics, and developing corrective action plans for areas that aren’t meeting stated goals.
- Encouraging communication and collaboration among teams to share best practices and encourage innovation.
Work Environment
You’ll primarily work during the day, but since our operations run around the clock, be prepared for occasional weekends or night shifts when needed.
Location
This position is based in Brooklyn, NY.
